A certificate of identity, sometimes called an alien's passport, is a travel document issued by a country to non-citizens (also called aliens) residing within their borders who are stateless persons or otherwise unable to obtain a passport from their state of nationality. Some states also issue certificates of identity to their own citizens as a form of emergency passport or otherwise in lieu of a passport.
Issued to a 23 year-old male by the Passport Office in Ipoh, Perak in 1955 which was valid for one year. $5 stamp as revenue collection was cancelled on top of the holder's photo.
The large document was folded into two.

It is without prejudice to and in no way affects the national status of the holder. If the holder obtains a national passport it ceases to be valid and must be surrendered to the issuing authority.
