An identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan is issued to citizens from the age of 16 and valid on the territory of the republic. All citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan permanently residing in its territory must have an identity card. An identity card is issued for 10 years.
In Kazakhstan there is a 12-digit Individual Identification Number for natural persons (abbreviated in Kazakh: ???, ZhSN; in Russian: ???]], IIN, with first six digits representing person's date of birth in the YYMMDD format).
